This is Alex- he has an eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorder. Although he appears to be a normal healthy toddler, it takes a lot of medical care and hard work to try and keep him that way. He has many delayed allergic reactions to common foods and must avoid anything with a trace of milk, egg, wheat, soya, rye, nuts, barley, oats, sweetcorn.... and new reactions appear frequently. He is medicated up to 10 times a day and must drink a revolting formula to ensure adequate nutrition. Even with the strict diet and care he still has bad days - severe abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, bloating, rashing, silent reflux, eczema.....
He can't share the food at his friend's birthday parties, touch play-doh, eat in restaurants or enjoy all the lovely treats that his siblings can have.
Can you imagine a life without food? Could you cope if someone was to tell you that you can't eat or touch your favourite food anymore?
Jo, Becca and Kate are attempting to run 10km to raise money for Fabed. Fabed aims to increase awareness, research and education into this condition and to help support the families dealing with it every day.
