Virgin London Marathon 2011 · 17 April 2011 ·

The brain is the most complex organ in our body. It controls our emotions, senses and actions. So when it breaks down, we break down. We fund the best research to discover the causes, develop new treatments and improve the lives of those affected. Let’s unite to accelerate progress. Today.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Well, I'm going to be running my first ever marathon in April and so I went for the big one - London! I will be running in support of the Brain Research Trust as it is very very dear to my heart. Not least because they support research into brain injuries and many of my friends and family do crazy motorsports, but also because they investigate diseases like the one my Dad had.

As you can see from my pics, Dad became a shadow of his former self in the space of 5 years. He still had a great sense of humour, but I wouldn't wish what has happened to him on anyone. This is why by supporting the BRT, I know the money will be going straight to pay for research into conditions like Dad's and those of the other young people at Wey House Nursing Home. Dad lost his battle with his illness this year on Tuesday 25th January, so I will now be running in his memory. I made a promise to him that I would finish it, so I'd best pull my finger out! Wish me luck.

The Trust was founded in 1971 as an independent medical charity - not part of the NHS - with the aim of supporting research at the Institute into diseases of the brain and nervous system: diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, multiple sclerosis and motor neurone and disabling neurological conditions such as epilepsy, stroke, migraine and brain tumours.

I've got quite a target to raise, but every little you can donate will help. I'm also donating 10% of any of the profits from my photography, so please dig deep and donate for me now.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
