Story

In February 2012 I am planning to visit the Saharawi refugee camps in Algeria to run a half marathon again! But this time the money raised will allow the team of fellow drama and movement therapists I am traveling with to stay on after the marathon and run a 10 day research project within the special needs schools, the landmine victim centre and the prison. This research project will allow my community theatre company Olive Branch Theatre and the charity Sandblast to plan and raise further funds to return to the camps and deliver training and run future creative therapeutic projects.

As many of you know my relationship with the Saharawi community has grown since my first visit in 2010. Olive Branch now run an annual two week Youth Theatre School and as I am training to be a drama and movement therapist I want to use my newly developed skills to offer a much needed psychological intervention within a number of settings on the camps. The Saharawi Refugees are the forgotten people of the Western Sahara who have been living in exile in the harsh Algerian desert since 1975. For more information about the Saharawi plight please watch the attached video of our theatre project and check out Sandblasts website.
