Story

The Bedales Parents' Association ran a wonderful fundraising event on 29 June 2012. Overall profit from the evening was: £42,000. See the Bedales website for more information.

Thank you to all Old Bedalians who participated in the school's 2012 phone campaign to update former Bedales students and to invite support. Click this link for more information.

The Sports Pavilion in memory of Sam Banks:  A new barn – dedicated to the memory of Old Bedalian Sam Banks, a keen and talented cricketer who died at the age of 20 – is planned to provide a much needed sports pavilion which will overlook both the Bedales astroturf and the Dunhurst sports pitches.

Donations for the Sports Pavilion in memory of Sam Banks will be split between the pavilion (75%), and the Sam Banks Memorial Fund (25%), established by the Banks family to provide full funding for students at the Pathshala Media Academy in Bangladesh.

Message from Louise and Graham Banks:

Sam was passionate about cricket and captained teams at both Dunhurst and Bedales. No built memorial to him could be more fitting than a pavilion overlooking the Dunhurst cricket pitch and we are extremely touched that the school has proposed this.

Sam was to have gone to the London College of Communication to study film-making. He also loved his last three months in India. These two facts led us to set up a fund to enable talented young people in the Indian sub-continent from impoverished backgrounds to experience the kind of course which Sam would have taken, but at this pioneering academy in Dhaka.

More about Pathshala - Building on more than a decade of experience as South Asia’s premier institute of photography, Pathshala has expanded its reach to embrace media in all its forms: television, print, radio, online, citizen journalism and social networking. Now, in addition to photojournalism Pathsala will provide professional training to working and aspiring journalists who seek the skills and knowledge to engage, inform, and empower the public, in Bangladesh and beyond. See more on the Pathshala website.

In order to achieve the goal, Bedales School will be making a significant contribution in addition to individual donations. There's more information about fundraising and development on the Bedales website.
