Whilst watching our husbands undertaking a triathlon, we (Angharad Spavins & Louise Witheat) thought "we could do that!!"  So along with some of our lovely family & friends (Mari-Anne Kinns, Claire Spavins, Natasha Sugrue, Natalie Manning, Nikki Edwards, Penny Carter, Nikki Milward, Claire Pollendine, Abbie Berry, Jen Wells, Katherine Jones, Alexa Farbon, Rebecca Kirkup, Sarah-Jane Massey, Sarah Donbavand) we will be setting out to complete the Bedford Sprint Triathlon on Sunday 16th June 2013. When deciding which charity we should raise money for it was easy.......Starlight Children's Foundation!

Starlight provided Seb Witheat with superb distraction during his long stay in Addenbrookes in 2011 for pneumonia and empyema.  They did this by providing him with his own portable Starlight entertainment centre on the ward whilst confined to his hospital bed and distracting him during multiple procedures and trips to theatre.

In June 2010 Bethan Spavins suffered from mastoiditis, a stroke and hydrocephalus. This resulted in prolonged stays in Addenbrookes, a shunt to drain her excess brain fluid, 23 trips to theatre and ongoing debilitating headaches. Bethan's consultant refered her to Starlight for a wish, which she discovered whilst confined to bed with an external drain collecting her brain fluid. From that moment the Starlight magic began and provided the perfect distraction from what she was going through. Bethan's wish to ride a horse on holiday in Tenerife was amazing!  She has also enjoyed some Starlight Escape Days to Olympia Horse Show, the Starlight Wishing Party and flying at Popham Airfield. These all provide distraction, much needed quality family time and wonderful memories to look back on.

We would both really like to thank all the "Bedford Tri-Chicks" for agreeing to take part, for all of the hard work they have put into training, the money they will help to raise for Starlight and wish them tonnes of luck on the day! There will be celebratory bubbles at the end!!
