The Story:
This year I have chosen to take part in a number of challenges in support of International Anti-poaching Foundation, Akashinga. Akashinga is a community driven conservation model empowering disadvantaged women to restore and manage large networks of wilderness areas as an alternate economic model to trophy hunting in Zimbabwe.
Due to poaching, elephant numbers in the Lower Zambezi region of Zimbabwe had declined by 40% since 2001. The women of Akashinga are doing exactly what we need to stop this decline. Not only are they helping with conservation, they are also giving back to their communities by investing at least 62% of operating costs directly back into the hands of local villagers. I have chosen to help the best way I can by fundraising for these exemplary women. To find out more about IAPF and Akashinga please have a look at the following link:

The Challenge: 125 miles Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race
The Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race starts in Devizes, Wiltshire, finishing just downstream of Westminster Bridge in central London, opposite the Houses of Parliament. The race has been held annually over the Easter Weekend since 1948.
The race is 125 miles long and has 77 portages. The first 52 miles are along the Kennet and Avon Canal to Reading, the next 55 miles are on the River Thames to Teddington. The final 17 mile section is on the tidal portion of the Thames.
The race is a severe test of skill, physical and mental stamina and planning which produces a memorable sense of achievement for those successfully completing it. I will be taking part in a Klepper TS2 in the folding boat category. To track my progress please use the link below. I am crew 437.
