Story
Big, big thanks to everyone who has sponsored any of the twelve halfs, or the Berlin M this year. The money raised for ORBIS is going to save a lot of folks' eye-sight. You've done sterling work. Cheers!
The Berlin run was by far the wettest race we've done. Couple of lakes to negotiate around half-way. We clocked in at 4.42. Slower than hoped for but even the Ethiopians were foxed by the rains. And maybe we slowed to enjoy the bands too much. Tremendous to finish through the Brandenburg gate and get high-fived by a man in a bear suit. Brilliant to get that finisher's medal (even if the etched Sammy Wanjiru looks a wee bit terrifying). And really encouraging to know we can handle the distance. Thought this was going to be the last race but ... no, turns out it's just the start. Want to start slicing chunks off the half-marathon PB now and then crush the M time in 2011. Maybe. (But don't fret - no more sponsor requests. For a while, anyways.)
Although ... if you meant to sponsor me but hadn't quite got around to it yet, there's still time. Just click the blue button or read on to find a little more about the charity...
ORBIS is doing all sorts of tremendously brilliant things to help prevent avoidable blindness across the world. Tis a big job, though: 36 million people currently have treatable conditions, which is why they'll be extremely happy to have any cash you can give. Treating most cases doesn't take huge moolah, so your money won't be disappearing off into some sort of causal abstract. You donate, and someone sees. Good stuff.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
