Hello and thanks for visiting my page. The event I am planning to do is pretty unique, I have been asked to play for a football team for a straight 24 hours....let me explain.... During my time in Middlesbrough I had some friends that started a Charity called LionsRaw. They had a vision of going to the countries that major international football tournaments are held in and working with local communities & Charities during the tournaments as a way of showing not all footballing fan's are hooligans like you see in the tabloids and news reports. This is a relatively new charity with it first kicking off (no pun intended) at the World Cup in South Africa 2010, and they are set to continue their work at the Poland/Ukraine Euro 2012 tournament next year and also at the next world cup in Brazil 2014!!!!
Before, during and after the tournaments there is a local worker sent from England that stays there to asses what needs there are and how best the team's that go over can help. In South Africa this included many things such as running football school's/helping local communities by building school's/helping support local charities/ getting involved with street kids, drug affected area's/area's of extreme poverty etc. This is a blueprint for future missions and projects. If I haven't managed to explain enough then you can always visit their webpage: http://www.lionsraw.org and you can find them on most social websites!
How does this fundraising event help then? On the 8/9 July I'll be playing for a full 24 hours (not including breaks) against other football teams. Each member of our team have committed to raise a minimum of £250. The money raised will go towards the cost of sending volunteer team's out to the countries/helping the long-term worker cost's and also supporting the different projects the charity start up/continue to run.
If you think that you'd like to be involved we are also looking for volunteer's to help with the running of the day and there are also a few spaces for other teams. I don't really have a target in mind but (as said) I need to raise at least £250 to be able to play on the day, anything more than that would be amazing. Thanks for looking at my page and I hope you can donate, any amount is welcome.
