Story
Like me, I am sure you have all seen DEBRA shops and may be vaguely aware of the Charity but not what they do...
You may also be aware that of late, I have become a bit of a cycling nut and this year I was determined to put this passion to better use than just riding for myself.
So, when I was applying for a place in the Ride London Surrey 100 race that is to take place in August I started to look at the possible charity rides available and there were more than a few...
As I wanted to ride for a charity that A) had a relevance to me and B) was not necessarily one of the well oiled, very well funded marketing charity machines DEBRA struck a particular chord.
The more I researched the charity the more I felt it was the right one for me. They are doing some truly amazing work in trying to prevent Epidermolysis Bullsoa (EB) and also support families that are suffering with this condition (more information can be found here). For those of you who don't know what EB is and I confess I didn't before I started looking into this - it is basically a very rare genetic condition in which the skin and internal body linings blister at the slightest knock or rub, causing painful, open wounds. Unfortunately there is no cure and certain types are fatal.
As a parent I can't imagine going through this and so if I can do something (however little) to raise awareness, help promote this charity and raise some money then that is a good thing. Anything you can do to help me, however small the donation would be greatly appreciated.
Ben
