Ben's Big Bike

Dieppe to Paris (BigBike) · 30 April 2013
Someone had the idea to cycle 90 miles to Paris before the company conference. A year of promoting BigHand through the "Every Second Counts" campaign with Olympic Medal Winner and friend of mine , Rob Hayles clearly went to our heads and the challenge was set.
Now for me this posed a couple of problems. Firstly, I have never really ridden a bike let alone owned one, (unless I count the second hand girls Bike I rode when I was 11 years old) whilst everyone else had cool BMX's/Choppers and cool racers. It was purple and lets just say character building. The second challenge is I agreed to do it 2 weeks ago and have 2 weeks to go until the challenge date, May 13th.The final one is the date itself. We are doing The Grand Vertes in a day on the Monday the day after my football team collect the title and I have to travel to France that day when I would normally be at the football. I have seen them collect and celebrated their previous 13 titles , number 20 will evade me. For anyone who know's my passion for United they will understand the pain this will cause me, far more than the ride I hope !
The final decision was which charity to donate to. There are so many good causes. But I remembered an old friend of mine Marc Souter from Uni (we studied Law together, well for some of the time, Marc was much cleverer), the charity he is supporting for his daughter and other sufferer's of this rare condition, www.justgiving.com/curefordylan for Rett Syndrome. I have 2 daughters (and a son myself) and can't imagine what his family are going through. We are also supporting Diabetes UK at www.justgiving.com/bighand so please feel free to support this great cause too.
Who know's whether I can cycle 90miles in a day, I have started training and bought a bike which is a start, and I dont give up on many things.
