The Foreign Aid Service responds to international emergency situations, and helps desperately poor people with healthcare and income-generation activities.
It operates in the framework of the Order of Malta, which provides international, co-ordinated response to suffering in the world through its 46 national associations and Aid Agency, Malteser International.
I’m going to be in Romania for six weeks this summer, and a charity: the Maltese Relief Service have asked me to raise funds for their Summer Camp for physically disabled youth.
The camp has been running for seven years, and aims to create a space where young people with disabilities can socialise, exchange experiences and gain more self-confidence. It’s also an opportunity for them to have a wonderful holiday as a variety of activities are organised such as boating, paintball, fishing and trips to the surrounding countryside. The summer camp will take place in Valcele, Covasna County and will last 10 days. The overall cost is 10,000 Euros, and I’m hoping to raise £500.
In order to raise that money, I hope that you will sponsor me! I’m planning on walking across the border from France to Italy in June. It’s going to be quite challenging as the route is through a high altitude mountain pass in the Alps, the “Col de la Lombarde”. I hope to finish up on the Italian side, at the Convent of Sant’ Anna, and the aim is to do it all in one day. I’ll put a link up soon, so that you can see a map of the route. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
