At Macmillan, we will move mountains to help people with cancer live life as fully as they can. We’re doing whatever it takes. But without your help we can’t support everyone who needs us. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

Two years ago, I thought cancer happened to 'other people.'  Often in my career making and coming up with ideas for TV documentaries, much of my career was spent speaking to ordinary people who were gravely ill.Yet despite the adversity they were faced with, often, these people were doing something that was so inspiring, simply talking to them would bring you up in goosebumps.

At the time, I had a clean bill of health and not a trace of cancer in the family. I was surrounded with so many awful stories, but in my mind, I was untouchable. I never thought about what I’d do in that situation because I thought cancer would never happen to me.

Well, that was until one day in 2009, after a hospital blood test, I was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukaemia (ALL). I was given a 20-40% chance of survival and spent four months in hospital isolation receiving chemotherapy. Although in remission, I'm still having chemo today and will be until March 2012.

To show my enormous gratitude for the financial generosity and emotional support both myself and my family have received from Macmillan Cancer Support during this horrible time, I'm organisng a silly sports day to replay the charity  by raising money to help other families affected by cancer.  WACKY OLYMPICS will be held at Mayow Park, Sydenham, London SE26.

If you are unable to attend but are keen to support me, I'd be really grateful if you could make a small donation through my page as I plan to split the total of the monies raised between Macmillan Nurses and a grants for cancer patients in financial difficulty.

Thank you for your support and god bless you and your loved ones
