Story

Thanks for visiting our page.

We're raising money for a superb orphanage in Kenya called The Good Life Orphanage

It's run by a couple from Bolton who make sure that donations go to helping the children themselves. They don't have big salaries, they don't fly business class and they don't waste your money. You can be sure that your donations will make a real difference to the lives of these unfortunate kids. Check out the website and get a real flavour of what they're doing http://www.thegoodlifeorphanage.com/ . It really is quite inspirational.

We're raising money for the orphanage in memory of our sister, sister-in-law and aunty, Bernadette Maher who tragically died in December 2009. Ber's family have built a school in her memory adjacent to and linked to the orphanage. The school is OK for funds but the orphanage always needs more because there are so many orphaned and abandoned kids in Kenya.

For an update on what the orphanage is doing at the moment, see a copy email from Mary Maguire at the bottom of this page with a message to all of the walkers and supporters

To raise the funds, we're walking Hadrian's Wall, which goes from England's west coast near Carlisle right to the east coast at Wallsend, near Newcastle. It's about 85 miles in all and will take us 7 days and a lot of blisters.

The participants are

Bernie, Tash, Ben and Jack Wilcox along with Matthew Vaz and Jack Barlow.

Liz Wilcox is driving the support vehicle and making sure that there's enough plasters and beer (or J20's in Jack's case) at the end of each day.

Hi All Walkers and Supporters

Hope all the preparations for the walk are going to plan !!

Have attached some photos of our latest two children to arrive at the orphanage, first is a little baby boy called Jim Masha, he is only a few weeks old, he actually tested HIV positive on arrival at the orphanage but Jackie thought he looked too healthy for a "reactive" baby so took him for another test which was negative, unfortunately until he is 18 mths old there could still be anti-bodies in his system so we will have to wait & see but as the staff have named after Father Jim Clarke who visited the orphanage in March they are sure he will be ok !!!!

The second is a seven year old girl called Winnie Achieng, she is Brian's sister, they originally put her in another orphanage but after Jackie appealed to them that we would like to keep siblings together they transferred her to The Good Life, her mother is dead and she has not immediate family in the area apart from her younger brother Brian so at least now they have each other and another 37 brothers & sisters.

In the picture is Philomena, she is the mother in Kilroe House, they moved in on 1st May and things are going very well, Thank God.

Thanks for all your help & support, now you all have two more little friends at The Good Life
