Meningitis is still a common disease affecting thousands of people and their families every year. Through my work and personal life I have come into contact with people from all walks of life who have been affected. 

Every year 3500 people are affected in the UK.  Sadly 1 in 10 will die, and many others will be left severely handicapped, mentally and physically. 

My girlfriend's cousin Hannah was one of the unfortunate ones.  One evening she began to experience flu-like symptoms, which worsened overnight, prompting admission to hospital.  Within 4 hours, this disease had taken the life of a healthy, intelligent 16 year old girl. 

Its events like these that make the work that Meningitis research foundation do all the more important. They provide 24 hour free support to anyone affected by the disease. They produce and distribute symptom cards and posters which have been proven to save lives. Whats more, they have currently got 26 research projects on the go, looking for further vaccinations and treatment options. 

There was nothing more that could have been done to save Hannah's life and that is why it is so important to develop a preventative vaccine. Please give generously to a cause that I believe in. Every penny can really make a difference to somebodys life.
