This is not a call to starve yourself in the name of charity.

So the story goes.  I was reading a book called "The End Of Food".  Not really a laugh a minute kind of read as you can imagine.  It said that there are as many overweight and obese people in the world as starving and malnourished.   There was me sat there with burgers, cream buns and candy canes just a short walk and a few pennies away (ok, maybe not the candy canes, not sure they sell those at the Spar) and there was somebody else with no choice or less, no food and clean water.  "Who said life was fair?" my Mum used to say when I whinned "Its Not fair, why do I have to wash up."  but surely it could be a little more fair than this.

I'm not a trained doctor or a disaster relief expert, I can't go to other countries to assist I'm just an artist sat in a little room with a computer and myself as material.    So I set out on Starvation Diet.  When I resist something I put the money saved to one side to go to charity.  I document it all through a blog and link that to my web page via a spoof diet page.  I have searched around for a charity who I think may make a real difference to others food security now and in the  future.  I think that practical action might just be that charity. (look up http://practicalaction.org and if you want more of the theory behind it read the fandabbydosey book "Small is Beautiful" by EF Schumacher)

So I have set up this page to make it easy for me to resist and pay the money direct, no messing with IOU notes in pots where the spare change should be, no accumulating a big abstract amount and then finding it hard to part with it.  It also allows other people like you to decide to resist and donate and try to redress the balance just a little bit.

If you want to follow my progress look at the blog:

and I would welcome feedback on the portal webpage which leads people off my website and gives diet log sheets both completed and blank:

Amounts I'm paying in are slowing down as I change my eating habits and less treats become the norm.  I need more people to decide its a good idea and go for it too.  Then we can make sure that some of our money keeps flowing in a fairer direction. On the plus side for me I've lost about a stone since I started and dropped a dress size.

So if you resist anything today you can give the pennies saved to here too.
