The humanitarian crisis surrounding refugees marks a critical point in the course of human history, whereby imperialistic actions are simply no longer sustainable without absolute chaos. Therefore, we have to act to accommodate the large influxes of everyday human beings, just like you and us and your family and friends, and nurse them back to the safe life they deserve. Just because they happen to have been born in a certain part of the world, thus subjected through no fault of their own to violence and corruption from higher imperial powers who have no regard for human life or morality, does not mean they deserve to be born, exist, and then die as a refugee. 

They deserve the same chance that the Western world has: a right to a home, education, free speech and a happy, stable family life without fear of war on their doorstep. They do not deserve to be living in overcrowded campsites and dying at sea in a desperate attempt to seek a better life on the other side of the water. We do have the resources to house them, to feed them, and to accept and embrace them into our diverse society if we manage the situation correctly. If we recognise firstly how lucky we are to live the way we do, and secondly our human duty to exercise this 'luck', and give all we can to those who need it so desperately. It is fair to say that we would expect others to help us if we were in need on the basis of being another human being, so now is the time to act. 

The main priority at the moment is to ensure these people can be given that chance at a better life in a different society, that they can even survive the turmoil of getting across the borders.
