Story

On September the 10th, 2013, David Richard Williams lost his short fight with pancreatic cancer. Dad was an early member of Morlais Mountain Rescue Team, which later became Central Beacons  Mountain Rescue Team, and a founding member of SARDA (Search and Rescue Dog Association) Wales. He spent hours on the mountains with these organisations and the close friends and experiences he had with them shaped him and his beliefs. He also had a penchant for attending inappropriately timed call outs with the team and, as a result, the rest of the family got to know the inside of the car VERY well!

My father was a person who loved nothing more than putting on a pair of boots (and head to toe camouflage!) and heading to the mountains and so it seems only fitting that we do the same to raise money in his name. And so, a group of Rhydywaun staff and friends are doing the Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours at the end of May.

The staff of Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun have raised thousands of pounds so far through activities in school. School uniform has gone out of the window for a day, numerous cakes have been baked by both staff and pupils (thanks!) and legs have even been waxed!

Like so many other sufferers, Dad never stood a chance against pancreatic cancer, a cancer which has just a 4% survival rate of more than five years. We hope that together we can raise at least £5000 for Pancreatic Cancer UK to fund research into the disease and improve the prognosis in the future. Any donations are so greatly appreciated.

Thank you xx
