Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Hi, you are looking at the fundraising effort of Margaret Cooney and Bettina Karsten. We have joint forces to get as much money as possible for this great charity, called Maternity Worldwide. In May 2015 we will both cycling about 300 km across Ethiopia to visit some of the hospitals supported by the charity. According to previous riders, this is apparently going to be pretty painful for various body parts.
Bettina is a lecturer at the University of Greenwich, who is supporting this event by giving her some time off. Moreover the University is also lending some high tech equipment for the fundraising events. Bettina is actually leading the bike ride in Ethiopia and she desperately needs somebody who organizes her, i.e. Margaret. For this project, Margaret is donating her brain power to get all our sponsorship efforts smoothly and elegantly executed J
Margaret has led many large change programs in the NHS and has always been focused on lining up what's needed by the local population and what's ale to be provided. She has been a commissioner of health services, a planner and is now working in emergency medicine. She is really interested in seeing how women’s’ and children's' ' health are being changed by Maternity Worldwide but she is also really excited about the cycle ride and meeting lots of the locals. She has a few marathons, triathlons and long distance cycle rides under her belt, but she has never done anything like this before!
So, what are we doing to get your attention? We have have organized a fitness testing event/s but we will also do some other nonsense, i.e. a very special pub quiz to get the much needed money together. In other words we are trying really hard, not to just ask for money but to provide some professional services and not so professional entertainment.
Forget about dying women or children, what we really want is you to like our events so please donate generously (even if you will not have the doubtful pleasure to be either tested or entertained….- autch, there it goes, we still want your money ;))
Thank you very much !!! We promise to really suffer during the ride :)
