GIVE A POUND PRESS RELEASE

Test out the 6 degrees of separation.  Who do you know that has benefited from the services of NWLLA?  NWLLA has helped many residents and community members over the ten years since it opened its red front door at 63 Irish Green Street, and like the theory suggests, I am sure we all know somebody they have helped and supported.  NWLLA offers ICT training, educational support, life skills and the chance to belong to an environment when, in some cases, there is nowhere else to turn.

I became unemployed due to the downturn in the building trade.  However, my interest in computers led me to NWLLA where I retrained and have now gained full time employment in teaching ICT and this has changed my life for the better”.

“Due to the closure of Seagate I became unemployed.  With NWLLA’s encouragement and expertise I gained my NVQ in Business Administration plus a range of other related qualifications.  I am now employed full time in a busy office”.

Now the Limavady based Charity, Life Long Learning (NWLLA), has come up with a new and innovative way to raise funds for those who have become known as NEETs.  So what is a NEET?

N(ot) in E(mployment), E(ducation) or T(raining).

A NEET is someone who just does not fit into any government scheme, is not signing for unemployment benefit, and who cannot access any funds to gain a qualification or ICT skill required to assist in getting a job.
Centre Manager Betty  McNerlin is now asking for the community to help.  She has set up the Give a Pound project on the NWLLA website and at Justgiving.com/nwlla and is urging the local community to just give a pound towards helping people to help themselves.

“I know times are tough for all of us but I am just asking, NO pleading, with everyone to find just one pound coin and donate it to NWLLA.  We have several people and projects that would benefit and rest assured we are a not for profit organisation so the donation would be spent appropriately.   We desperately need to raise funds and I hope that the local community will GIVE A POUND!  So look in your car ashtray or the pocket of your winter coat or down the back of the sofa and GIVE A POUND!”

NWLLA have made it very easy for you to donate the pound.  Their website will tell you exactly what to do. Go to www.nwlla.org.uk.  If you would like to find out more about the worthwhile work that NWLLA does then call in to the centre on Irish Green Street and donate your pound there.  NWLLA are bag packing all day Saturday 22 August at Super Valu in Limavady so please support them.  Pop along and get your bags packed or just drop by and GIVE A POUND!
