Hi there and welcome to my fundraising page.
In my infinate wisdom I decided to register and take part in the most exciting, rewarding and challenging adventure of my life, or in my daughter's words: "yet again you are doing something daft for the benefit of other people".
In February 2010 I'm thrilled to be cycling 460km (or there abouts) through the beautiful countryside of Vietnam and Cambodia, quite a challenge considering I was given my first bike at the tender age of 40 and have to overcome my fear of riding my trusted steed on the open roads!
Why all this madness? Well I'm raising £3000 for MAG (Mines Advisory Group www.maginternational.org) which supports mine clearence programmes worldwide. Please take some time to check out the website. I would be very grateful if you could help me achive this tremendous goal by donating to such a worthwhile cause... the cycling you can leave to me! Please visit this page whenever you can, I've been reassured that there are plenty of people, e.g. my children, who are willing to video and snap my gruelling training and entertaining fundraising events.
Enjoy the sweat, tears and hopefully a lot of laughter. Thank you for your time... and donation?
Some MAG information (taken from www.maginternational.org):
"MAG provides solutions in both clearence and eduaction, using a veriety of methods including empolyment, metal detecting, minefield and ordnance marking, sniffer dogs, large machinery, distruction of small arms and light weapons, new technologies and much more, all of which contribute to removing the threat of poverty caused by the presence of the remnants of conflict.
Landmines, unexploded ordnance and uncontrolled small arms and light weapons can resrict people's access to education, healthcare facilities, water and land for cultivation. They hinder links between communities and restrict local trade. In addition, fear of death and injury has a negative impact on those who live, work and grow up amidst the danger of a contaminated environment. By clearing these threats MAG helps to achive long-term and sustainable development objectives."
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to MAG and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
