Bhavisha Vadgama is raising money for Richard House Trust

Nationwide London & South East Social Investment · 7 August 2020

Richard House Children’s Hospice supports children and their families in East London to lead as positive and happy a life as possible when dealing with a life-limiting health condition. Our services support the whole family, from residential clinical care, to music therapy to end of life care.

Story

Richard House Children's Hospice serves the heart of east London. We deliver specialist care for babies, children and young adults, while supporting their families through counselling, therapy, bereavement support and more. With a focus on living for today and creating positive memories for tomorrow, we also offer a range of activities for all the family to enjoy. Our services are completely free of charge and as a local charity over 70% of our funding is charitable - from the generosity of local people, companies and groups.

This is what Richard House have to say :

“The last few months haven't been easy for Richard House. The global pandemic forced the team  to make decisions we never imagined we would face – decisions that impact the lives of hundreds of sick children and their families. But during this all we have been able to still be here for these families, offering them support and assistance. We foresee an unprecedented drop in income over the next 6-12 months as a result of the cancellation of fundraising events, activities and the closure of our six charity shops.

Out of 191 events in 2020, 67% (121) have either been cancelled or postponed. These include our 20th Birthday Thames Cruise and Summer Fair, Prudential Ride London, Royal Parks Half, Orbit Abseil,

Hackney Half and all 8 Action Challenge extreme events. The loss of income from these events alone, is in excess of £150,000. Despite all the incredible work we have achieved so far, Richard House still faces an uncertain future where we may need to cut services and we may even need to close our doors for good . This would be devastating for our families at a time when they need us most.

It's only thanks to our loyal supporters, can we stop this uncertain future. We're hoping momentum from our community continues in order for us to remain giving care throughout this crisis.”

One Hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in or the car I drove...But the world may be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child.
