Story
What
Last year, with the help of my parents I cycled across the whole of France before competing in one of the toughest endurance one day events that you can shake a stick at – The Ironman.
This year, after breaking my ankle and having a few new nuts and bolts holding my foot on, I'm banned from running but can still set myself a challenge - the 10k Big South Swim Challenge on 8 September 2012!
Why
Because of an inspiration and courageous lady, Sandra Yeates, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2010, and the amazing support team at Hampshire Absestos Support & Awareness Group. Lynne Squibb and Diane Salisbury started campaigning to raise awareness in February 2006, following the death of their father.
They are a independent campaigning organisation who support sufferers of asbestos disease and promote awareness of the illnesses associated with use of asbestos.
In October 2006, Diane and Lynne also supported a Lobby at the House of Commons, to campaign for the provision of a chemotherapy drug, Alimta to be made available on the NHS. HASAG also attended the Government’s Mesothelioma Summit in 2007.
In 2008 HASAG hosted their very first Action Mesothelioma Day in Portsmouth, and since then HASAG have raised over £20,000 for research into asbestos illnesses.
