Story
Overview
Place2Be is a children’s charity who provides emotional and therapeutic services in primary and secondary schools, building children's resilience through talking, creative work and play. Place2Be provides children’s mental health services in 294 UK primary and secondary schools, reaching a total school population of 142,000 pupils, helping them to cope with wide-ranging and often complex social issues including bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma.
Why Am I Raising Money for the Cause
The necessity of Place2Be's is increasing every day. Providing mental health support early is critical to the individual’s development. We need to be the voice that some children do not have and help detect signs of mental health issues and provide support at critical stages in people’s lives. Some children are not able to express themselves and may not have the same support at home, we must be productive, smart and united. This is not only a humanitarian concern but being unproductive on issues of mental health costs the economy heavily also (as more children can grow up not needing critical support). A quote from the Place2Be’s website “Among teenagers, rates of depression and anxiety have increased by 70% in the past 25 years” - the pressure that is put on teenagers at a young age can be difficult to manage especially without the support. The reason I want to do the Trek is not only to challenge myself, raise money for charity and do something amazing but also because I believe in the cause. Place2Be’s is a great partner with the infrastructure, track record and experience to help tackle our fight. Their integration within schools is particularly important, I believe in modern society schools are best placed to detect issue in early adolescence.
