Welcome to the fundraising page for Bill Stothart
For the University of Chester’s 175th Anniversary, and to raise money for charity, Peter Harrop and I are going to do the longest, fastest zip line in the world, Zip World Velocity at Bethesda, on Sunday 28 September 2014. It is over a mile long and we’re promised to get up to 100mph above Penrhyn Quarry.
We both work at the University of Chester which was originally founded as Chester College in 1839, so the Academic Year 2014/15 is the 175th Anniversary. To celebrate there are numerous activities being organised, and staff and students are being encouraged to fund raise for charity. We have chosen to do something to get the heart rate up a bit!
I am supporting Cancer Research UK which is the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research.
The charity is important to me personally because, like a lot of people, cancer has affected many in my family, including my sister, mother, aunt and cousin who all lost their lives to the disease, as well as others who have survived.
In the 1970s, just a quarter of people survived for 10 years or more following a diagnosis of cancer. Today, thanks to research, that has increased to half, so survival rates have been doubled in 40 years. Cancer Research UK want to accelerate that progress and see three-quarters of patients surviving cancer within the next 20 years.
Peter is supporting Families United, and has a separate Just Giving page:
http://www.justgiving.com/owner-email/pleasesponsor/DefyGravityPeterPlease give what you can.
One day we will beat cancer – through research and with your help we can make it sooner.
Donating through JustGiving is quick, easy and secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: the charity gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, JustGiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid is added to your donation.
Thank you
Bill
