Story

One man’s physical and mental challenge!

Cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End would be a huge challenge for most people but for someone who has spent the last 11 years managing and living with a serious mental illness it’s an enormous challenge to take on.  And that is just what Billy Wallace from Tynron in Dumfries and Galloway is setting out to do on 4th June 2011.

Billy wants to show that with the right kind of support people with mental ill health can adjust to society and put quality and stability back into their lives.  He says:

“It’s thanks to the network of social, vocational and educational support I’ve received from Support in Mind Scotland that I can take on this challenge – and succeed!”

He has already proven his determination when he walked the Southern Upland Way in 2009 but this is a 19 day, 1087 mile solo challenge which will test his determination to its fullest.  He plans to average 60 miles per day and is looking for as much encouragement as you can give.  A toot, a wave or even a “wee push” on those long, never ending hills will help him on his way, but also, equally as important to Billy, he wants people to know about the help Support in Mind Scotland can offer to people like him and the difference it can make to their lives.

So please dig deep and donate now.

HOORAY!!!

Completed the journey as planned on the 23rd June 2011
