Hi, and thanks for taking the time to visit the BlackSheepChallenge page.

So, what is the challenge?

The Horseman Xtreme Triathlon will take place over 140miles/226km of Dartmoor's unique and challenging landscape. 2.4miles/3.8km of open water swimming in Roadaford Lake, 112miles/180km in the saddle with 3700m of climbing and finally the small matter of 26miles/42km running across the moor.  Sound like fun? 

Why his particular triathlon?

Everyone knows that I love a bit of a challenge, so when I heard about the inaugural running of this event, I had to do it.  I also knew that I wanted to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research and so with that in mind, I figured that in terms of suffering for every donation, you'll get great value for your money ;)

And the other why...

When i set up this page, little did i know just how relevant it would become. As I write, it's been about 5 weeks since I set up the page, and 3 since my beautiful and precious wife was diagnosed with a very aggressive breast cancer.  We are now living in the nightmare that is this disease. She doesn't deserve it, no one does.  But the impact it has on our future is immense.  We are positive and we are hopeful. But equally we are terrified and stunned. Such is the impact of that word. But as I train every day, I know that advances are being made and I pray that as I train, the scientists and research moves one step closer to finding that cure.

Its been a few years since I've been able to attempt something like this due to injury, work or just life.  But I have these problems because I'm alive.  There are many people, friends and family, who have not been so lucky.  If I can raise a some money for Cancer Research then maybe they will be one step closer to finding a cure for this terrible disease in all it's forms. Maybe then, family and friends wont have to watch someone close to them fight for their life and all too often, lose.  And maybe by keeping it in focus and supporting Cancer Research we can lengthen the odds for survival for anyone and everyone affected.

So, for my wife whom I cannot live without, I do this. For my sister Louise who lost her fight in 2007, I do this. For friends who lost their fight, I do this. For those who are suffering now, I do this. And to help those in the future, I do this.
