Story
I am going to Kenya in the summer for two weeks with the University of Manchester to work with deprived children with 'Kenyan Orphan Project'. Visiting Africa on a charitable visit like this is something I have always wanted to do and I look forward to the challenges that this trip will bring.
Kenyan Orphan Project is a charity which focuses on supporting vulnerable children in Kenya on issues of health, education and social welfare, fighting poverty, disease, social exclusion and injustice.
The group will be staying for two weeks in Kisumu which is a city in western Kenya and working on a number of projects which include work at a school, a feeding centre and a street children’s centre. We will spend a number of days at each project where we will learn about the many challenges facing children living in poverty and see how our fundraising is making a difference and helping change lives. I am lucky in the sense that I will have the chance to engage with the children on a personal level, through giving informal teaching on health topics in the form of group discussion and games. I will contribute to the daily running of the projects, for example by helping with gardening, cooking, cleaning and serving the children.
Of course none of this can happen without the fundraising. KOP say that fund raising is one of the most important parts of the charity as the money keeps the projects going, supporting 1,400 children every day.
So I would be so grafeful if you could donate anything at all! As you can see, it is going to a good cause!
Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
Thank you for your kindness, all donations are much appreciated!
