The first major initiative of Funding for the Finish campaign, our Double Donations Dash, has proved hugely successful, moving us about £200,000 closer to our target in just one week. Thus, at the start of April 2012 the sum we still need to raise is £600,000 to complete the extension to East Grinstead, which we hope to open at Easter 2013.
The funds raised through this page are currently being applied to the Bluebell's Northern Extension Project, with Funding for the Finish being part of the Bluebell Railway Trust's "50th Anniversary Appeal". The appeal web site shows other ways you can donate or help.
We have effectively met our 1 April 2012 deadline for waste clearance. Further waste trains are unlikely, and even if a relatively small amount of waste still needs to be moved, we have plans in place. Both undertaking this work and also raising the funding required by the deadline has been a magnificent effort by staff, volunteers, and other donors. However, we cannot let up, as there is much more to be done.
The 50th Anniversary Appeal also aims to raise an additional £500,000 to help preserve our unique collection of rolling stock. That is why the appeal target currently shows £2.5 Million, which was the base-point as at April 2011, when this page was created. However, this is not the only way we are raising money towards the target, nor does it show that the Bluebell Railway has already raised and spent around £9 Million over the last couple of decades in getting to the current stage.
