I have waited five years to get a place in The London Marathon and now it has finally happened. I have been running for about six years now so I am fairly confident that I will finish the race. The main reason I wanted to run for charity is because of my brother who sadley passed away at the age of 50 seven years ago after a courages battle with the muscle  waisting disease "Motor Neurone". John was a very fit active cyclist and we shared many races and training sessions together but he eventually changed to running. John ran a lot of marathons and also ran The London marathon many times.

John's Muscles deteriorated  over a space of five years but his mind and voice was still very active to the end. We shared a lot of memories together on the days I was able to vist him. This is a very cruel disease with an active mind trapped in a lifeless body.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND Association) is a British charity, operating in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, established in 1979 by a group of volunteers to coordinate care, support, and research for people affected by motor neurone disease

The aim of the MND Association is a world free of MND.

The Association's key activities include:

  • Raising awareness of the condition
  • Funding research
  • Providing information to patients and carers
  • Coordinating research through conferences and symposia
  • Providing local care through a network of branches and regional care advisers
  • Lobbying government.

The training for the marathon will not be easy for me but with your support and backing it will be a lot easier. May God bless with your giving to this worth while charity.

Finishing the London marathon last Sunday in 5hrs 23 mins was a great exprience for me. The weather was perfect, the crowds fantastic and the organistion excellent. Not an easy race which was made more difficult for me when I fell on Tower Bridge, tripping on the mats covering the wires for the timing devices. MY brused ribs slowed me down but I finished and achieved my goal. I just want thank everyone who supported me by donating to my charity MND.

God bless you all. Ray.
