Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and supporting my ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro for The Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy. My challenge was to trek up Africa's highest mountain, to an altitude of nearly 6000 metres, with seven good friends from the same squash and racketball club. The rest of the team were - Giles, Nicola, Keith, Moya, Lynne, Anne and Stuart.

After 5 days trekking and camping each night we reached the summit camp on 12 October. We set off for the top at midnight. What followed was the hardest eight hours climbing any of us have endured, and we all reached the summit at 7.50 am on 13 October.

Thanks to your support we have raised over £5000 for a fantastic local charity, The Dame Vera Lynn Trust.

The Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy provides a specialist service for families of young children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. Parents and children learn daily living skills together at their School for Parents. They support over 80 families with babies and children under five years of age in West Sussex.

A highly skilled and professional team helps parents to recognise a child's unique qualities and achievements despite their disabilities. Parents can talk openly to each other about their child's activities, and share understanding of each other's situation.

I have good friends whose grandchild is desperately disabled with cerebral palsy and the impact that the school has had on the child and her parents is profound and has changed all their lives for the better.

All the Trust's services are provided free of charge. With no statutory funding, they rely entirely on the support of the community and need to raise in excess of £650,000 this year to ensure that their inspirational service can continue.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the Dame Vera Trust and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks a million!!

Bob
