Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We have decided to raise money for Special Care Baby Unit at West Suffolk Hospital as in June 2011 Bobs’ daughter Ava was born 6 weeks early and spent some time in the unit.

During her time there the care she received from the staff was fantastic and they really made a difficult time much easier for Bobs & Nikki, so Bobs wanted to do something to try to repay them. So that is why he decided to enter the 2012 Edinburgh Marathon to raise much needed funds for the unit. Stacey, who had already entered, kindly agreed to raise money for them too.

If you are lucky enough to have never had to spend time in SCBU, you have probably never considered the costs involved in keeping it running. Did you know one incubator costs £30,000?

West Suffolk Hospital SCBU has 12 cots and they look after 385 babies per year. The average cost per day to look after one baby is around £1000. Ava spent 7 days in there so the care she received cost the hospital £7000.

They provide breast pumps so mums are able to express milk if their babies are too small to feed and need to be tube fed - one pump costs £1500.

The unit also use their money to provide nappies, formula milk, bedding, blankets, clothes and all the other comforts a new born baby needs.

So the money raised could be used to buy new equipment, fund staff training or even to buy new sheets, blankets and clothes for the babies in their care.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
