School Furniture

You may have heard that when the new Bognor School opens this year, the students will inherit a new building complete with new fittings. This is indeed a fantastic privilege for the children of Bognor Regis. You will no doubt also realise, however, that the introduction of fresh fixtures for every new classroom will mean disposing of the current furniture, much of which is likely to be dumped in a landfill site.

Rescue

Our reunion looks set to be well attended, at a key time of massive transition for the very school that unites us. More crucially, however, is the opportunity that this gathering has afforded us to make a real change. The charity ‘Education for All’ has agreed to work with us to save as much of the current educational furniture as possible, in order that other, less fortunate, students might have access to better education and a brighter future.

Mission

Mathare, Kenya, is the second largest slum in Africa. The Mathare Children's Centre is a school for disabled children and slow learners. Whilst the school has a decent building, their equipment is either very poor or non-existent.

One shipping container costs £5,100 to send from Bognor Regis to Mathare. £2,100 has already been pledged towards this. Together, we need to raise a further £3,000 for a container in which to ship this furniture - unwanted by us but so desperately needed by others.

So please dig deep and donate now. Do also feel free to forward this page to any family and friends who you think may like to contribute.
