Story
On 13 and 14 th of July I will be taking part in the Race to the Stones (Henge, not Rolling) with a group of friends with an equal lack of capacity to comprehend exactly what walking 100km means!!
I am walking in memory of the wonderful Di Parry, whom I got to know as a parent of one of the children in my Year 5 class a couple of years ago. She and her husband Steve were the nicest people to deal with and their bright, beautiful daughter Hollie a joy to teach. Di also taught my daughter Niamh the violin (exceptionally patiently!) and managed her Fareham Fireflies netball team. All the time I knew Di (and for some years before) she lived with cancer, maintaining dignity, a passion for life and a complete lack of self pity. She was utterly inspirational and the courage with which she faced adversity was humbling. Steve and Hollie have bourne her loss with such fortitude; I will never forget the determination and spirit in the face of grief that Hollie showed in her tribute to her Mummy at Di's funeral, truly her mother's daughter.
The walk is going to be such a challenge, but with Di's maxim of carpe diem ringing in our ears, as well as good dose of her gritty perserverance, we shall make it!!!
I do hope you can sponsor us for such a worthy cause and help create something positive from such sadness. Thank you sooooo much for reading...now dip deep, dip shallow; just please dip!!
