BookCrossing/RNIB Right to Read Campaign, 29 July 2006
We help blind and partially sighted people to break down the barriers of sight loss

Story

The London BookCrossing group are fund raising to enable the RNIB to produce another talking book.  Hopefully we will reach our target of £1500 which will mean that "Deception Point" by Dan Brown will be recorded with the money we have raised.

Many thanks to everyone who attended the London BookCrossing Literary Quiz on 9th January and thanks, of course, to Quadrat and Flambard who organised the quiz, setting the questions etc.  The quiz  was a great success.

Thanks also to everyone who has donated since the details of our fund raising appeared on www.bookcrossing.com.  People have been extremely generous and I know the RNIB will be very grateful.

Unbelievably 96% of books are never made available to people with sight problems. RNIB are campaigning to change this. People with sight problems want to read the same book, at the same time, at the same price, as sighted people.

2 million Talking Books are issued by RNIB every year and we want people who are passionate about books to help us record more.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: RNIB will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

If anyone else has a group that would like to start their own fundraising for RNIB Talking Books, please contact Martin Harris, RNIB Community Fundraising, Tel 020 7391 2066 martin.harris@rnib.org.uk

Many thanks for your support.

About the charity

Every day 250 people in the UK start losing their sight. With your help, we can be there when people need us most, support independent living, create an inclusive society and prevent avoidable sight loss. Every pound you raise will help create a future where sight loss is no longer a barrier.
