As a fellow hockey player, I have known Tim Ollerenshaw for a long time and he is well known and liked within the hockey community. The Ollerenshaw’s loss of Molly is heartbreaking and would bring a tear to the eye of the gruffest sportsman. It is truly fantastic that they turned a tragedy into something inspirational and started a charity in memory of Molly to help other families who find themselves in a similar position. I cannot explain the story very eloquently and would recommend that everyone visit’s their website www.mollyolly.co.uk.
As Cranfield Business Recovery’s chosen charity for 2015, I have decided to do my bit to raise additional funds for Molly Olly’s Wishes. I am competing in the Cardiff Burn on 25 October 2015 which comprises of a 10km run, followed by a 30km mountain bike ride where you navigate to various check points and finish with a 3km kayak. Many of you will remember that last year I took part in the Wolf Run. In order to get my friends and colleagues to dig deep once again for a very worthwhile cause, I have had to up the ante! My thanks also go to Sam Ginifer and Lisa Smith who have once again been roped into the challenge to make sure I get to the finish line.
One of the initiatives that Molly Olly’s Wishes have undertaken is to help explain to children needing treatments such as chemotherapy to understand why they are fitted with a Central / Hickman Line and coming to terms with losing their hair. To do this they have created ‘Olly the Brave’ and each child gets a pack containing their own mini Olly the Brave and a special book to guide them through this difficult time. Olly the Brave is a lion and as well as being fitted with his own Central Line, his hair or ‘mane’ comes off to show that you can still look lovely without it.
Each of these packs costs £15 and my aim is to raise at least £1,500 to enable Molly Olly’s Wishes to provide 100 packs to children across the UK. Please support my challenge, any amount that you are able to donate will be gratefully received.
