My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
***UPDATE!***
I AM NOW BALD! The event took place on Thursday 7th April 2011 but YOU CAN STILL GIVE!
I used 60 wax strips to tear the hairs out of my flesh by the root and that just about covered my feet, legs, arms, armpits, chest and back. I hadn't enough wax strips left for the rest so it all got shaved - even my eyebrows!
If you would like to see me screaming like a little girl, I broadcast a live webstream on the day which I recorded and can be found at the following website towards the bottom of the page, as well as a video of my head, beard and eyebrows being shaved: www.ustream.tv/channel/brian-goes-bald
Why Did I Do This??
As many of you know I spent half of my gap year in Uganda and it really affected me. I had an amazing time there but there was a huge amount of poverty and need. You see this stuff on TV all the time but it's sooo different seeing it for yourself.
Much of the money will be used to help a poor widow who is really going through a hard time, and her house is in danger of collapsing. She was so generous to me when I visited her, despite the fact that she had nothing, so I want to bless her in return. You can find her story here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZnuGJ1n3w0
------------------------------
I have decided to get rid of the goatee (which I began to cultivate when I was in Uganda) which has marmite-like reactions, i.e., most people seem to either love it or hate it. As well as this I am going to shave my head completely with a razor so I'm completely bald and my eyebrows too. I will also remove by use of wax all my body hair (not that I'm all that hairy, but still, it won't be pleasant!)
I don't at all mind doing this and looking silly as it's for a very good cause. I am giving all the proceeds to Rock Ministries (NI) Trust, the charity through which I went to Uganda. Rock Ministries (NI) Trust have to contend with many challenges and this money will be a huge blessing to them...
Any donation at all, big or small, will make a huge difference so please dig deep! When you see how far £1 can go in Africa you can really see how much of a difference it makes!
I'm a student, so I know what it's like having limited reserve of money but if you go with a couple less drinks on a night out, or save buying that new top until next month then you can help make a REAL change!
I know my fellow students don't get their next loan installment in until after Easter but don't let that stop you from giving. This page will still be up and running long after the event so please give whenever you can. I really appreciate it!
Thanks to you all!
Brian
