Story

Hi everyone I am hoping to raise money for the Newcastle Leukaemia & Lymphoma Fund at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

My father, who died on the 25th October 2008, had been treated at the Royal Victoria Infirmary haematology department during his illness. However it was my father-in-law, who died three weeks after my father, who was under the special guidance of Mr. Jackson and his team for his treatment.

The event I will be participating in is an indoor cycling event over 13 hours in Zurich, Switzerland on the 24th October 2009. If you are not sure of what indoor cycling training is about, their website is http://www.cyclingevent.ch/index2.html where you can view photos of last year's event.

I am entered into the event as a single rider and that is my challenge to complete the 13 hour ride on my own. I have never been to this event before so I am not sure of exactly what to expect however so far I have managed to do 2 hours in one session!

During my training and throughout the event I will be supported by Jaqueline my wife, who will be my inspiration and strength.

If you are a UK taxpayer, and make a donation to a charity, the charity can reclaim from the Inland Revenue the basic rate tax on your gift.  In simple terms this means that a donation of  £10 can be increased by a further £2.80 under the Gift Aid Scheme at NO EXTRA COST TO YOURSELF (£10 paid by you as a donation and £2.80 recovered by the Charity from the Inland Revenue).

If you pay Higher Rate Income Tax you can claim tax relief against both Income Tax and /or Capital Gains Tax on the difference between the higher (40%) and basic rate (20%) of tax (i.e.20%)
