Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. As you will remember, I broke my hip in February last year and ended up sharing a ward with several people whose fractures were a result of osteoporosis. I was shocked by the impact on their lives of what were usually very minor accidents (unlike mine which was pretty spectacular and for which I only had mysemf to blame!).
One in two women and one in five men over the age of 50 in the UK will break a bone, mainly because of osteoporosis. The NOS funds research into treatments for and preventative measures against the onset of osteoporosis. It also funds specialist nurses to care for people with the conditition and a telephone support line for those anxious to know how to adapt their lives to this chronic condition.
Last year I took on the challenge of a rowathlon (4km row, 35km bike, 7.5km run) just 9 months after my accident. The running was by far the hardest part and I still find running longer distances a challenge for fairly obvious reasons. So, given that: I am now based in Paris; 15 other Linklaters staff will be running with me; exercise is highly recommended as a preventative measure for osteoporosis; and since we all get very nice Linklaters magenta tee-shirts, I decided this year to take on the 20 km de Paris.
If you would like to sponsor me, donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to do so: the National Osteoporosis Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
Brian
