Story
This year when you wake up feeling tired and sluggish on New Years Day, why not shake off the excesses of Christmas by running into the sea. It’s freezing, you’ll scream and laugh your head off with all the other crazy folk but you’ll love it and you’ll be glad you got up off the sofa and did something.
This is the seventh year that an ever-growing group of hardy souls have taken the plunge on New Years Day in aid of a good cause. This year’s charity is Marie Curie Cancer Care and all money raised will go directly to this great cause.
Gavan McGibbon from Whitehead started the event back in 2008 and has seen the event grow from strength to strength commented “this really is the best craic and to think you’re having all that fun, meeting new people and raising money too is terrific. I’ve been doing this for 6 years now and in this 7 year I don’t reckon the sea will be any warmer but that doesn’t matter as it’s really good fun. We have plenty of hot drinks and soup afterwards and from experience you actually warm up very quickly. I’d encourage everyone to do it, it certainly beats lying on the sofa.”
So start the year with doing something fun which you’ve maybe never done before, and raise some money for charity at the same time.
Register for free at: www.newyeardip.weebly.com and perhaps make a donation to Marie Curie at the same time. We’re on facebook too
St John’s Ambulance will be in attendance and there will be free hot drinks and food for all taking the plunge.
