Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving page.
I have been type 1 diabetic for 17 years now, and this is what lead to me becoming a volunteer speaker and mentor for JDRF (the main T1 Diabetes Charity in the world).
A brief summary of T1, is that you have to manually regulate your body's blood sugar levels (because your pancreas stops doing it for you, annoyingly!) via multiple blood testings and 3-5 insulin injections every day. While T1is an "invisible disease" it posses immediate risk if not managed properly, and can lead to long term irreversible damage and health risks if not controlled well.
Through my role at JDRF, I was introduced to an incredible man called David Cowie. David's 9 year-old son Adam has been T1 for 4 years now, and in a collective effort to support Adam, David's family and friends have gone to huge lengths to organise a massive fundraiser in the form of a triathlon event for 100 people:
"I take health for granted but not everyone has the same luxury.
I cannot take diabetes from Adam but I can let him know without fear of contradiction that he is immensely loved and supported by his dad, mum, brother and grandparents along with others are here for him.
He will also know that we raised a fantastic amount to help out with finding a cure."
Any donation that you can spare to help the Cowies reach their incredible target of £9000 will be hugely appreciated!
Thanks!
