Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I've run races before, but this time I thought I would donate my training and time to a greater cause. I'm raising money via Penny Appeal (#TeamOrange) to help with the Rohingya Refugee crisis.
Despite having their own language and culture, and a strong presence in the region for many generations, the government of Myanmar does not recognise the ethnic minority of the Rohingya as citizens. Tensions have recently flared up with nearly 500,000 Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar (Burma) into neighbouring Bangladesh, where they have been placed in refugee camps.
They have fled from violence, persecution and the burning of their villages by local mobs in what the UN have termed a 'textbook example of ethnic cleansing'. For more on the crisis, see here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-41566561
The money you donate will go directly to providing assistance in the form of food, water, clothing, blankets, medical and hygiene supplies for the displaced Rohingya. For more on how Penny Appeal will use your donations, see here: http://www.pennyappeal.org/appeal/rohingya-emergency
My fundraising efforts are part of a broader team effort via Penny Appeal to raise £20,000 to help with this crisis.
