London to Paris Bike Ride by Skyline Events · 26 May 2010

Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

Thankyou for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be joining a 100 or so people on the 26th May 2010 to do a 500k (310 mile) Bike ride from London to Paris over 4 days to raise money for DIABETES UK's research appeal. I have chosen this charity because my wife is a Insulin dependent diabetic and has been since she was diagnosed when she was 14 years old.

Diabetes is a serious condition affecting around 2.6 million people of all ages in the UK of which 20'000 are under the age of 20. In addition there are a further 500'000 people who currently have diabetes and don't know it and by the time these particular people are diagnosed they are likely to have had the condition for between 9 and 12 years.

By doing this bike ride I am doing my part in helping find a cure as Diabetes UK spends over £7 million on research per year, with much of the research they have been funding seeing breakthroughs in genetic research in particular.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

What ever you can donate is much appreciated by myself and DIABETES UK's research appeal.
