My story

A year ago Craig fell critically ill with bacterial meningitis. He didn’t recognise the symptoms and wants to raise awareness, particularly within the school where he teaches, so people are able to act in time and below is his story:

In the early hours of Tuesday 24 November 2009, I was rushed to the Kent and Sussex Hospital with suspected meningitis.  Having been immobilised for the previous four days the doctors eventually agreed to send out an emergency doctor to visit me...I was told that I had a virus and that I should take Pain Killers.

Only a few hours later I was then rushed to hospital through the quick thinking of Michaella.  I spent the next seven days in Hospital with Bacterial Meningitis.  If I had of arrived at hospital as little as ten minutes later, the Septicaemia would have left me with long term problems or worse.

Although this experience has not left me with any long term physical issues, it has left me with a life changing attitude.  As a Teacher of Physical Education and Head of House at The Hayesbrook School in Kent, I feel running the 2011 London Marathon is a great opportunity for me to ensure that this issue is raised on a large scale through the raising of money and information giving.
