I will be taking on the National 3 Peak Challenge to fundraise for HorseBack UK.

This will be a mentally and physically demanding mountain-endurance challenge through which I will climb the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours.

The challenge takes on the summits of Ben Nevis at 1344m (4,409ft), Scafell Pike at 978m (3,209ft) and Snowdon at 1085m (3,560ft) in that order within a 24 hour time period and driving between each location. It covers 450 miles by vehicle and 26 miles of hill walking with over 10,000ft of ascent and descent.

I am taking on this challenge to raise funds in support of HorseBack UK.

HorseBack UK is a charity which has been created to provide a safe and secure environment to aid those serving, or those who have served in the UK armed forces. Many of whom have suffered physical injury and/or acute stress as a result of their commitment to their country. Whilst combining western horsemanship, rural skills and adventure training, HorseBack UK endeavours to integrate serving personnel and veterans into the rural community inspiring a meaningful and rewarding future.

After the initial intense medical treatment required for many of our wounded servicemen there follows a lengthy period of rehabilitation. Boredom, frustration and isolation can be the biggest challenges facing an individual during this period. By bringing those at different stages of their recovery together and by using a holistic approach to mental, physical and social rehabilitation, HorseBack UK aims to make a difference by restoring self respect and inspiring individuals to fulfil their potential as part of a community.

I have witnessed first hand the effects that HorseBack UK has on the individuals that go there. It is something that I struggle to put into words. At times it can be almost overwhelming on an emotional level. But to see an individual filled with pain and loss, suddenly thrust into the moment by an animal intimidating in size, yet seemingly empathetic to that persons suffering, is incredibly profound. No price can be placed on the difference that HorseBack UK has on such individuals, their futures and their families.
