Last summer I decided I needed a challenge, I've always loved cycling and thought John O Groats to Lands End would be a great idea.

There was a problem though I can't map read or do bike repairs so I managed to first talk my partner Jon into coming along. Then with a great sales pitch also talked our friends Ange and Andy into joining us for the ride.

When I first suggested the ride I was the most unfit person in the group by a long way, but i've pushed myself to get fitter and I've even given up smoking! Fingers crossed I'll be able to keep up with the others, as you all know I only have short legs!

In the past my cycling has been between pubs, on mountain bikes but for 1041 miles on this ride a road bike was required. We all got our new bikes in Novemeber. It took a bit of getting used to riding a racing bike, but we soon started building up the miles and can now confidently cycle our daily average mileage.

The challange is now being able to do that mileage every day for 19 days to reach the finish line! We are doing the ride unsupported and in the opposite direction to what is recomended (due to wind direction)

Over the last few years a number of our friends have had family members who needed the care provided by Sobell House Hospice. In each instance the care and support given to both the patient and the family has been amazing.

In order to keep the level of service they provide, ongoing funds are needed. Please donate whatever you can to help people in my local area when it really matters to them and their families.
