Welcome to the site and thank you for your interest. Meet Mary (the gorgeous little 5 year old in the photo). She is my sponsored child, through Compassion, and I have recently had the privilege of meeting her and her family in Accra, Ghana. After moving to the city to find work, Mary’s parents have only been able to find work cracking stones at the local quarry. The pay is very low and as such, only 4 of the 8 children are able to attend school (Compassion pays for Mary’s school fees).

 

To compound their problems, Mary’s parents don’t actually own the dwelling that they and the family live in. A friend agreed that they could use his property, but has now decided to sell the land on which the dwelling is built. Hence the need for this site.

 

My colleagues in Ghana estimate that the land itself (with the original structure) will cost around $2,500 (£1,500). As all 10 of the family (plus an aunt and cousin) live in the same one-room structure, I am also hoping to fundraise enough to build an additional room/s for the children. Finally, the property also has a road-facing position that would be ideal for a small kiosk from which the mom could sell a few items. This would enable her to keep an eye on the children and remove the need for her to work in the quarry.

 

All in all, I am aiming to raise about £2,500. That is where you come in. Any and all donations towards this would be much appreciated. I have also attached a photo of Mary and her family and the current dwelling that they all live in.
