Story
In late 2016, a friend of ours was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given between 6 and 8 weeks to live. The news was devastating to her, her husband, friends and family. We quickly realised that finding the right place for her to be cared for properly wasn't easy, until we came across St. Luke's.
St. Luke's looked after her in every way possible and nothing was too much trouble, even cooking meals for her and her husband so they could still eat together when he visited. The Staff were amazing, professional, genuinely caring and couldn't do enough for her. She passed away 12 weeks after her diagnosis having spent most of that time being cared for by St. Luke's.
St. Luke’s care for adults living in central and southern Cheshire who are suffering from cancer and other life limiting illnesses, serving a population of around 280,000. They offer 24 hour care to local people, as well as their services offered in Day Hospice, out-patient clinics, complementary therapy clinics, counselling, bereavement support and many other services. They are a charity and over 80% of their services are funded from donations, fundraising events, gifts in wills, goods sold in their shops and their lottery players.
In support of this amazing charity, on the 15th July 2017, we (Mark Nicholls, Nigel Barnes, Matt Carter, Andrew Burgess, and Pete Hall) are going to cycle from Whitehaven on the West Coast of England to Sunderland on the East Coast via The Lake District and the North Pennines. We will cover nearly 140miles and 11,000ft of hills in the process. This is a brutal challenge that most cyclists would consider undertaking over 2 or even 3 days. We're going to try and tackle it in a single day. We will be supported by Kate Nicholls, Roger Knight and Sarah Barnes who try and keep us going.
Please help us support this amazing charity who really need our help so that they can continue helping the people who need it the most by donating what you can. Thank you for reading.
