Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

You've taken the step step towards supporting Cundall Manor's bid to raise £3000 for Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team who operate in the mountains of Lochaber and especially Ben Nevis. This cause means a lot to Cundall Manor, as we take a party of 12-13 year olds up to the Ben every year. It means a lot more however to one pupil in particular, Alfred Mitchell:

Alfred’s uncle Chris fell to his death in January 1994 while climbing 3437ft Beinn a' Chaorainn near Roybridge. His body was lost in a deep, snow-filled corrie and repeated searches, by mountain rescue teams failed to uncover it. It was a full two months later, and with the help of revolutionary radar equipment, not used in mountain search and rescue attempts before, that Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team managed to locate and recover Chris’ body.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team was set up in the late 1960s It was and still is today entirely made up of unpaid volunteers, with the current membership standing at approximately forty men and women. LMRT does not only help climbers and hill walkers, they also attend incidents involving back country skiers, cyclists and canoeists who are in a remote area or in an inaccessible location that requires rope-work, or as in Chris Mitchell’s case, specialist equipment to locate and extricate them.

Alfredwill be taking part in Form 6's ascent of Ben Nevis later this term, and it will be a wonderful moment when he hands over our fundraising cheque to the Mountain Rescue Team. The cheque he presents will be made up of sponsorship money from Thornton pupil Charles Edgar's mountain marathon last term, the whole school's sponsored walk just before half term, and Form 6's attempt at the Three Peaks Challenge later this term.

Please give generously.
