We are a group of Year 12 girls from Central Newcastle High School who are travelling to Tanzania and Kenya in July 2012.  One of our aims is to provide some of the girls in the Maji Moto Secondary School for Girls in the remote Maasi Mara area of Kenya with reausable sanitary wear. Many of the girls in this school do not have access to sanitary wear, and this forces them to stay at home during their period.  As you may be aware, in this part of Kenya it is rare for a girl to be given the chance to go to school; women are usually expected to lead a domestic life of cooking, cleaning and bringing up children from an early age.  Therefore it is essential that these girls can get the most out of their education, and we certainly feel that taking some reusable sanitary wear to these girls would not only benefit them greatly in terms of comfort, but would aid their education in the long term. We have already raised some money through cake sales at school, however any donation will help us to reach our target of providing sanitary wear to as many of the 211 16-21 year old girls at the school.
