This is the fundraising page for the Special Care Baby Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital. All funds raised through this page will be used for the Neonatal unit.

The neonatal unit at The Countess of Chester Hospital comprises 20 cots.  We provide 4 levels of care : Intensive Care, High Dependency Care, Special Care and Transitional Care ( a small unit where Mums can stay with baby whilst he/she is receiving neonatal care).

Babies are admitted for many reasons including : prematurity, infections, heart problems, congenial abnormalities, etc. Last year we cared for 450 babies with the length of stay ranging from 4 hours to 1 year and we provide care and treatment for babies from 27 weeks to those born at full term requiring additional support.

All equipment is highly specialised and many babies start their life on the neonatal unit in an incubator before being transferred to a cot, following an improvement in their condition. Incubators provide a humidified environment with the ability to deliver oxygen when needed, and provide clear access at all times for the staff to care for the baby. Some of our incubators have built in weighing scales as many babies cannot tolerate handling in the first few weeks of life.

Later this year we will be launching a major appeal to extend and refurbish our Special Care Baby Unit and any support that you can give to our fundraising efforts will be very much appreciated.
